A Thermographic Survey is a condition-based maintenance technique used to assess and trend the condition of machinery, structures, systems and media (i.e., steam channels, oil, water, etc.) • Find something that is cold when it should be hot or hot when it should be cold. • Uses non-disruptive means to find these heat anomalies. • To avoid the extremely high repair cost and impact of catastrophic failure, need to record, save and trend thermal characteristics of many types of equipment to establish predictive maintenance plan for key assets. • Personal safety is improved (e.g., NFPA 70B/70E adopted by OSHA).
